چکیده

Let G be a group, S a subgroup of G, and F a field of characteristic p. We denote the augmentation ideal of the group algebra FG by ω(G). The Zassenhaus-Jennings-Lazard series of G is defined by Dn(G) = G ∩ (1 + ω(G)). We give a constructive proof of a Theorem of Quillen stating that the graded algebra associated to FG is isomorphic as an algebra to the enveloping algebra of the restricted Lie algebra associated to the Dn(G). We then extend a theorem of Jennings that provides a basis for the quotient ω(G)/ω(G) in terms of a basis of the restricted Lie algebra associated to the Dn(G). We shall use these theorems to prove the main results of this paper. For G a finite p-group and n a positive integer, we prove that G∩ (1+ω(G)ω(S)) = Dn+1(S) and G ∩ (1 + ω(G)ω(S)) = Dn+2(S)Dn+1(S ∩ D2(G)). The analogous results for integral group rings of free groups have been previously obtained by Gruenberg, Hurley, and Sehgal.

In this paper, we associate canonically a precyclic mod- ule to a regular multiplier Hopf algebra endowed with a group-like projection and a modular pair in involution satisfying certain con- dition

Field Identification in Nonunitary Diagonal Cosets

We study the nonunitary diagonal cosets constructed from admissible representations of Kač-Moody algebras at fractional level, with an emphasis on the question of field identification. Generic classes of field identifications are obtained from the analysis of the modular S matrix. These include the usual class related to outer automorphisms, as well as some intrinsically nonunitary field identi...

Homology for Operator Algebras II : Stable Homology for Non-self-adjoint Algebras

A new homology is defined for a non-self-adjoint operator algebra with a distinguished masa which is based upon cycles and boundaries associated with complexes of partial isometries in the stable algebra. Under natural hypotheses the zeroth order group coincides with the K0 group of the generated C ∗-algebra. Several identifications and applications are given, and in particular it is shown how ...

Modular Invariance of Characters of Vertex Operator Algebras

In contrast with the finite dimensional case, one of the distinguished features in the theory of infinite dimensional Lie algebras is the modular invariance of the characters of certain representations. It is known [Fr], [KP] that for a given affine Lie algebra, the linear space spanned by the characters of the integrable highest weight modules with a fixed level is invariant under the usual ac...

Maximal Ideals in Modular Group Algebras of the Finitary Symmetric and Alternating Groups

The main result of the paper is a description of the maximal ideals in the modular group algebras of the finitary symmetric and alternating groups (provided the characteristic p of the ground field is greater than 2). For the symmetric group there are exactly p − 1 such ideals and for the alternating group there are (p − 1)/2 of them. The description is obtained in terms of the annihilators of ...

Abelian Extensions of Algebras in Congruence-modular Varieties

We define abelian extensions of algebras in congruence-modular varieties. The theory is sufficiently general that it includes, in a natural way, extensions of R-modules for a ring R. We also define a cohomology theory, which we call clone cohomology, such that the cohomology group in dimension one is the group of equivalence classes of extensions.
